Minutes of The 10th Plenary ACFA Meeting (Draft) The 10th Plenary ACFA meeting was held at the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory (PAL), Korea on October 2-3, 2005. Participants:
Summary: 1. Introduction After being welcome by PAL Director, each participant introduced himself. 2. ILC issuesAll members asked Prof. Namkung to remain as the ALCSC Chair, and he accepted it. 3. Report from each member After approval of the minutes of the last meeting, each member presented the activity in his region:
The particle physics activities (BEPC, BEPCII, Neutrino physics and ILC), Accelerators for Nuclear Physics, Synchrotron Radiation and FEL, Chinese spallation neutron source, advanced accelerators research and accelerators for application were presented. The current status on Indus-1, Indus-2, and other accelerators were presented. The Indus-2 would give photons early 2006. Synchrotron usage is growing in India. They plan to augment beam line development activity to get the best out of Indus-2. The Indian participation in CERN was also reported as a model for India’s International Collaboration in Future Mega Science Projects. The KEK status on B Factory, K2K, Photon Factory, and J-PARC was presented as well as the RI Beam Factory at RIKEN and the compact SASE source at Spring8. The PAL has 23 beam lines and constructs additional 6 beam lines. At KAERI the self-modulated laser wakefield accelerator is studied by POSTECH-KAERI collaboration. The proton Engineering Frontier Project is running since July 2002. until 2007. The Taiwan beam lines at Spring8 is available since 2001. The SRRC has been reorganized in 2003 into NSRRC. In NSRRC the SRF module for TLS application is studied in collaboration with Cornel Univ. The superconducting insertion magnet and the Top-up injection are also studied. The future Taiwan Photon Source (TPS) is under planning. 4. Communication and Outreach in Asia by Morita The InterAction and its activity were introduced and Asian participation into the InterAction was appealed5. Report from Working Groups
For use of spallation neutron source, radioactive nuclei beam, intense meson and neutrino production, and intense proton beam application the High Power Proton Accelerator is under study. There are several collaborations under this WG: collaboration between KAERI and KEK for J-PARC DTL tuning, collaboration between KAERI and IHEP, and collaboration between KEK and IHEP. The 1st mini-workshop on HPPA was held at KEK for RFQ. The 2nd workshop will be held early next year in Korea for J-PARC installation. At KAERI the 8th and the 9th HPPA workshops were held on Sep. 20-21, 2004. and on Oct. 17-18, 2005., respectively. SPMS(Scientific Programme Management System), the collections of the programs and databases for nearly all aspects of the conference management, was introduced. Our experiences with SPMS at HB2006 will be quite useful for the management and proceedings production of APAC2007. Asian Advanced Accelerator Community was organized at APAC2004. The ACFA endorsed the AAR WG in 2004. India joined to WG. Proposal by the Philippines to be a member was made. After discussion all members agreed that Philippine becomes an ACFA member. 7. APAC2007It was agreed APAC2007 will be held at Center for Advanced Technology, Indore, India, on Jan. 29- Feb. 2, 2007. 8.Vice Chair electionProf. Chuang Zhang (IHEP/cn) was elected as the ACFA Vice Chairman, who will nominate the deputy secretary soon. 9. Closing and Next ACFA meetingThe next Plenary ACFA meeting and ALCSC will be held on kate August 2006 at KEK. The next to next ACFA will be at the same venue to APAC2007.
